28th Annual FOHCL Book Sale Is Coming Up in April

Just in time for spring house cleaning, the Friends of the Hunterdon County Library (FOHCL) is gearing up for its 28th annual book sale, set to run from April 25-27.  We are all excited to report to our community on two things:  donations for the sale, volunteering opportunities, and scheduling.

As always, we seek the community’s support through donations.  In fact, every single item we will be offering in the sale will come from someone in our neighborhoods; each year we completely renew our offerings.

As we gear up for this year’s sale, we are especially interested in certain items:

    Hardcover and paperback books

    Children’s books

    Former library books

DVDs, video games, and music/audiobook CDs

    Video games

    Puzzles

    Sheet music

    Bookends

Please place them in boxes if possible.

In addition, there are some items we are not able to use:

    LPs/Vinyl

Anything on cassette

    Encyclopedias

    Pre-2022 computer and business books

    Advanced reader copies

    Textbooks

    Reader’s Digest condensed books

    Magazines of any type

Anything in mildewed, water-damaged, or beat-up condition

We will have two book drives this year. Both are on Saturday: April 11 and April 18.    The book drives will take place at the Grange Building (same place as in previous years) in the South County Park Fairgrounds, which is on Route 179, Lambertville, NJ, 08530.    They will both run from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, rain or shine.

Donations are welcomed!  We welcome large and small donations to the book drives; all make a difference! Besides the book drives, donations may also be dropped off North County Branch (Clinton) April 7-9 during normal business hours (9:30 am-5:00 pm).  Donations may also be dropped off at the HQ Library (Rte. 12 in Flemington) April 13-17 during library business hours (9 am-9 pm). Please limit donations at these library branches to 3 bags/boxes as space for drop-offs is limited. After that, we’ll be getting organized for the sale.

The week after the second book drive, the main sale starts: Saturday, April 25 (10 am-5 pm), and Sunday, April 26 (10 am-3 pm), when everything is 50% off!    As always, we will be offering books on almost any conceivable subject, most for $2 each (for hardcovers), and a special collections boutique with individually priced rarities or unusual volumes.    On Monday, April 27, we will have a bag sale (we’ll provide the bags) from 9 am to 2 pm.   For more details and updates, please check out our web page: https://hclibrary.us/friends/booksale.

Besides books, we need people!   From Tuesday, April 7 through Thursday, April 23 we will be setting up, receiving donations, and organizing them.  Volunteers are needed and welcomed to help collect books on the two donation Saturdays and also to help sort books in advance of the book sale. In addition, volunteers are needed for the three days of the book sale itself, for tasks as varied as directing traffic, cashiering, organizing tables, and greeting and guiding.  Students are welcome to participate if 13+ years old and service credit will be given.  In short, we have a place for you! To participate, download the volunteer form from our website: www.hclibrary.us (click on FOHCL) or email fohclvolunteer@gmail.com. For more information: contact us at fohclbooksale@gmail.com. All are welcome, and everyone can make a difference.  The fellowship of the booksale is sublime.

Every year our community has made this sale a great success for our county library system.  In advance we thank everyone for their awesome support this year!
